Another Cruiser board on the market that promises us the look and feel we had back in the old days. Time to rip this beauty out of the box.

Brand

Indy/Ridge Skateboards is a United Kingdom brand that focusses on the children’s market when it comes to skateboards. Inspired by the retro seventies style, they have developed their own vision of what a cruiser skateboard should be.

Unfortunately, little is known about Indy skateboards but they are trying to get their name out there thanks to the help of some local UK riders. Still we are glad to see another UK company pushing the skateboard market along.

Design

Indy tries to be a cheaper alternative to its competitors. Let’s see if they deliver what they promise.

Ripping open the box reveals a nice surprise. This cruiser board comes with a set of extra wheels and some other accessories. (They probably include the extra wheels so you can have the confidence to adjust them without worrying about them breaking – more about the wheels later).

The Indy cruiser board is of good quality but maybe a bit too small for adults. What you see is actually what you get with this board: a nice, average-quality cruiser skateboard that does provide a smooth ride.

A major downside we encountered was the fact we had to buy two boards. Our first one snapped after doing some mad tricks. Considering the price they charge for this skateboard, it is quite costly. Still did does not mean that every board will break, you just have to be careful with it.

Another point of annoyance is the stiffness of the ride and the lesser quality of the bearings. Popping this board out of the box and taking it for a spin immediately is not recommended. You should loosen up the wheels because it gives a real stiff feeling when riding.

Of course this can be a matter of taste. But still you need to push hard on this board to get forward. So, we do recommend taking a good look at those wheels, trucks and bearings. Maybe even expand with other brand designs. Actually, now that we mention it, the Indy is a good basis for a custom designed cruiser board.

Still this is a nice alternative to the other cruiser boards on the market. The quality is considered average but it is a plus with the added wheels. If you can find the right way to make the sturdy ride smoother, you are in for a treat. As long as you don’t abuse the board that much because it can deteriorate quickly. You just have to be lucky to get the right board under your feet.
